Details:
Enormous and complex sunspot group AR1944 put on a great show on the sun today. My son and I were able to view it without magnification using just our eclipse glasses. Through the telescope, it was a mass of large and small spots covering a huge area about the size of Jupiter. Several other spots freckled the surface. This sketch shows the sun as observed through an 8-inch Dobsonian and Baader White Light Filter at 32X for the full disc view, and 120X for the detailed view of AR1944. (The second sketch includes labels of the active regions.)
