Visible 2013-12-27 from 17:40 UT to 17:53 UT It was definitely blue, bright - almost like an NLC, but of course that can be excluded. I have no idea what it was... Appeared from nothing, grew and slowly dispersed while drifting to the west, it was visible for about 13-14 minutes. Nothing was seen before it (no meteor, no satellite, no plane at this region). Weather: open shallow fog, high moisture - so if any ground light source had illuminated something, the lower part of the light should have been also visible. There was no wind at ground level and no clouds at above. This is a small hill, mostly popping out of the fog which was thick in the valleys around the hill. Sun was at -26 degrees (below horizon). The cloud appeared at 17:40 UT and dispersed while drifting towards the ligh polluted western sky above the city at 17:53 UT (maybe it lasted longer but the light pollution killed its light) Another observation was collected from south Hungary (about 140kms from my location), the observes saw it also in Auriga. So I guess it should be something high in the upper atmosphere (even a meteor is seen with greater difference at the sky with such a distance of observers). My guess would be some rocket exhaust, but I don't know about any lauch that happened today evening. Pics were taken with two cameras, the first is a panorama of 4 pics, Nikon D5100 with 18mm kit lens, F3.5, ISO4000, 20 sec. exp. The other 3 pics are cropped of 10mm images with my other Nikon D5100, F2.8, ISO2500, 15 sec. exp. Timelapse of the cloud, second part is cropped: http://youtu.be/w1MRkgdMTaM

The mystery seems to be solved. There was a Russian Topol missile test just in time for the observations:
