Gaia as it moved away from Earth, near Orions Shield.
Taken by Dave Eagle on December 19, 2013 @
IO knew that if successfully launched and following the intended flight plan, Gaia would be visible from Earth as it moved out to its L2 point in space. Its newly deployed solar shield must be very reflective as the spacecraft was brighter than I expected. It was great to wave it goodbye to its destination.
