Woke up early this morning to see what all the excitement was about the "naked eye object" comet lovejoy. No it isn't anything to write home about. No it isn't a naked eye object unless you can magnify with your eyes and up the iso to 3200. I got these shots with iso 3200 6 sec at 18mm and 100mm with a canon t4i. Not saying I didn't enjoy finding the comet just the disappointment of the size of it. 10 arc seconds maybe. not 10 degrees. It was clear and dark and pretty easy to find with the camera as you can see the placement between the constellations clearly not stretching from bootes to Hercules as some have stated. 18mm shot with 18-135 stm lens and 100mm shot with 100-400L. both on tripod. Next time I will shoot at 400mm with my lxd mount to track the stars instead of the tripod. with the lens set at 400mm it filled pretty much the whole frame. Just calling it what it is. and clearly can be seen what you can expect to get with a camera and tripod at the shown focal lengths.
