Details:
There's a bright nova just close to Beta-Centauri, visible to the naked eye at mag 3.8 on Dec 5th at 3am. This area of the sky is very popular and only Alpha and Beta Centauri are normally seen with the naked eye so the new star was very easy to spot and surprising.
