Details:
Tonight, Venus slid past the star Nunki (Sigma Sagittarii) in the "Milk Dipper" asterism in Sagittarius, the two missing each other by a scant 12' 44". Venus, at magnitude -4.56, shines 420 times brighter than Nunki, at magnitude 2.00. This is a 30-second exposure through a Celestron 4-inch refracting telescope, stopped down to f40, using a Nikon D700 DSLR camera set at ISO 6400.
