Geyser, Moon, and Stars
Taken by Zack Clothier on July 15, 2013 @ White Dome Geyser, in the Lower Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park, erupting at midnight. The glow coming from behind the steam is the moon setting on the horizon. In September there were a total of 130 earthquakes over the course of one week, ranging from magnitude 0.6 to 3.6. Many of these occurred here in the Lower Geyser Basin. It's hard to imagine that underneath Yellowstone sits North America's largest supervolcano. According to scientists it is not a matter of "if" but "when" the next eruption will occur. Someday the Yellowstone supervolcano will roar back to life, changing life as we know it and rendering much of the United States uninhabitable. It could even affect temperatures globally. Let us hope this doesn't happen any time soon, but if it does, at least I've got a front row seat ;) See more of my photography at www.ZackClothierPhotography.com Photograph Copyright © 2013 Zack Clothier Photography, all rights reserved.
