It's unusual to have thunderstorms in October but today a small storm system formed over Hungary. It was quickly moving towards the NE direction and it was still raining when Moon appeared in cloud gaps, so I went out with the hope of some moonbows. But instead of moonbow I could catch 4 red sprites! It was a very exciting experience, as I could even see 2 of the sprites with my eyes! I used ISO4000 and 5 sec. exposures as the sprites are bright (but very short) and with this settings their light won't fade into the sky's own brightness. With one of the sprites a fine green meteor also fell into my photo and pleased me with a good pic as a result. Somewhat later as the air began to cool a fog formed and I had to come home. The thunderstorms that produced the sprites were 130-140 kms from me - this is an ideal distance for observing and photographing sprites.
