Details:
I had been out the whole night of October 1-2, 2013 watching and shooting the fantastic auroras that spanned much of the sky here. As morning was slowly approaching, the sky was starting to calm down just a bit, but I continued to shoot....and I just happened to be aimed in the right direction at the right time to capture this meteor streaking by. This was one of those slower-moving fireballs, taking what seemed like several seconds to pass - fizzling and sputtering and coming apart right in front of me in pulsing bursts of light until it ultimately faded and burned out. Quite an awe-inspiring sight, and a thrilling way to cap off a superb night out. Shot this at around 4:25 am EDT with Pentax K-5 with Pentax 10-17mm fisheye lens, f/3.5, ISO 3200, 20 second exposure.
