Details:
This huge electromagnetic pulse, which is actually called an Elve lightning event, was generated by a -206.1 KA stroke, according to Vaisala Xweather Lightning Data. The thunderstorm was about 240 Km southeast of my location in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. Good thing I switched from my 50mm lens to a 35mm lens that night. My 50mm lens would have only captured part of it. The 240 Km distance from the source lightning stroke is the reason why it looks so huge. These events can stretch anywhere from 300-500 Km wide and sometimes even further than that. That is why it is known as the largest type of TLE event that we know of so far. This event was captured under a bright moonlit sky that had an illumination of approx 88 percent.
