It is a main-belt asteroid that was discovered on 4 April 1914
by Franz Kaiser at Heidelberg-Königstuhl State Observatory.
It was named after the castle Hohenstein.

Franz Heinrich Kaiser (25 April 1891 – 13 March 1962) was a German astronomer.
He worked at the Heidelberg-Königstuhl Observatory from 1911 to 1914 while working on his Ph.D. there,
which he obtained in 1915. During this time, Heidelberg was a center of asteroid discoveries
and he discovered 21 asteroids during his time there.
The asteroid 3183 Franzkaiser was named in his honor
No image found of him, only lots of images of Franz Joseph I or Francis Joseph I,
which was Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary, and the ruler of the other states
of the Habsburg monarchy. ( The closest he came to Astronomy is all the stars on his chest )
