We got lucky with this one, as a break in the clouds finally allowed a view of the partial lunar eclipse near maximum. Beautiful with clouds passing by. The red hue cast upon the lunar surface toward the centre of the umbral shadow was plainly visible, but certainly not as punchy and saturated as most eclipse photos lead us to believe.
This is a blend of two exposures (1.0s and 0.5s at ISO 100) taken a few minutes after maximum eclipse (00:19 EDT), toned to better approximate the visual appearance of the eclipse and its subtle hues as seen through binoculars or a small scope.
Explore Scientific ED80, Nikon D5300 with 1.4X Teleconverter (EFL 670mm @ f/8.4). Processed with Lightroom and Photoshop.
