There's no better time than a total eclipse to complete the picture of the solar atmosphere.
This is actually a double shot, taken from Menorca at 7:36 PM, one minute before first contact with the sun at 12 degrees above the horizon, via a spectroheliographic scan of the chromosphere (red), and the corona, taken at 8:30 PM from Madrid, with the sun at 7 degrees above the horizon and completely eclipsed by the moon.
This shot reveals the entire solar atmosphere, with a radial range that even professional coronagraphs struggle to achieve, even from space.
