Over the past 12 days, the Moon's apparent diameter has increased from 0.490° to 0.541°, as it prepares to completely cover the Sun's apparent diameter of about 0.525° during the Total Solar Eclipse on August 12, 2026.
Compare these photos of the Moon and the Sun taken on July 26–27 with those taken today om Aug 7, 2026.
On July 26–27, the Moon's apparent diameter was smaller than the Sun's.
Today, the Moon's apparent diameter is larger than the Sun's, allowing it to completely cover the solar disc during the Total Solar Eclipse on August 12, 2026.
