Details:
Comet 220P/McNaught had another major eruption sometime on August 4-5 that increased its brightness by about 650 times. This happened after the comet had a major eruption at the end of May that increased its brightness by about 7000 times. After the first eruption the comet had faded to magnitude 13-14 before erupting again to magnitude 6-7. In this image the comet is magnitude 7.2 with a green comet coma 0.15 degrees wide and a very faint pencil tail 0.35 degrees long extending to the upper right of the coma. Comet 220P/McNaught is now the brightest comet in Earths skies at the moment.
