Details:
Currently, the two fringe features Mare Marginis and Mare Smythii are very well visible because of the Moon’s favorable libration of +7 degrees in longitude. The image shows the two maria below the lunar limb with Mare Marginis directly above Mare Crisium and Mare Smythii next to it to the right. When we made the exposure, the Moon was only 25 degrees above the local horizon and the evening sky was still very bright. A 675nm IR pass filter helped to stabilize the seeing and to enhance the contrast of the Moon against the sky. Shot with a Celestron C5 and a monochrome IMX662 camera.
