Details:
On the night of June 17, 2026, from Santa Maria Beach on Sal Island, Cape Verde, I had the privilege of witnessing and photographing the occultation of Venus by the Moon.
This was only the second time in my life that I had observed this beautiful celestial event during the nighttime. The first time was almost 19 years earlier, on June 18, 2007, from my hometown of Isfahan, Iran. https://www.spaceweather.com/eclipses/18jun07b/Soltanolkotabi2.jpg
After nearly two decades, I traveled thousands of kilometers to Cape Verde to experience this phenomenon once again. Unlike my first observation, this time I was fortunate enough to follow every stage of the event under clear skies and capture it through my camera. Venus remained hidden behind the lunar disk for almost 12 minutes.
Moments like these remind me that astronomy is not only about observing the universe, but also about preserving memories that connect different places, different times, and different chapters of our lives.
From Isfahan in 2007 to Cape Verde in 2026, separated by nearly two decades and thousands of kilometers, the sky brought me back to the same extraordinary encounter between the Moon and Venus.
