On the evening of May 8, 2023, the Davenstedt Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to the aforementioned incident. Due to the youth fire brigade's training session ending shortly before the alarm, the HLF20 (fire engine) was able to quickly depart for the scene and arrived together with the fire engine from Fire Station 4. Later in the operation, the LF10/6 (fire engine), the MTW (multi-purpose vehicle), and the fire engine from Fire Station 2 also arrived. Upon arrival, the first police officers observed black smoke coming from an empty apartment. Initial reports that three people were still inside the burning apartment proved false. The fire was quickly extinguished, and surrounding apartments were searched for any other occupants. A section of Geveker Kamp Street was completely closed for the duration of the operation.
