Details:
MICRO BLUE MOON: Because the month of May 2026 started with a full "Flower Moon" on May 1, the upcoming full moon peaking May 31 qualifies as a calendar Blue Moon, the second full moon to occur within a single calendar month. Despite the name, it will not look blue. It will display its usual bright, silvery gray color, though it may look golden or orange when it sits low on the horizon. Calendar Blue Moons only happen once every 2.5 years, which is where the famous phrase "once in a blue moon" comes from. This particular event is also a micromoon. The Moon is currently at its farthest point from Earth in its monthly orbit, making it appear about 7% smaller and slightly dimmer than an average full moon.
