Details:
This formation shows a lenticular cloud crossed by Kelvin–Helmholtz instability structures: wave-like patterns created when air currents move at different speeds above one another. What makes this scene particularly interesting is that the waves do not appear to sit above the cloud, but rather emerge from within the lenticular cloud itself, as if the wind were sculpting the vapor from the inside. Another possibility is that these structures developed along a sort of “shelf” within the lenticular cloud, made visible by condensation.
