Details:
Sirius has a companion star 'Pup' as a white dwarf on the NE side. Sirius is at -1.4 magnitude while the 'Pup' is about +8.5. It is about 10 arcseconds apart and the 'Pup' is still visible quite clearly even though the largest separation has passed.
