Details:
This is a 360º panorama of the aurora on February 15, 2026 during a Kp4 to 5 level display, with a normal aurora to the north at bottom which was quite colourful to the camera with reds and greens and a touch of blue. Overhead at centre is an odd-arc of deeper green and a hint of red that may be a proton aurora and a formation called a RAGDA, a Red Arc with Green Diffuse Aurora. It appeared only for a few minutes and was visible to the unaided eye as a white band or patches in the sky. It faded from view and to the camera after 5 to 6 minutes. Taken from home in southern Alberta. North is at bottom, south at the top. The Big Dipper is at bottom and Orion at top right. Jupiter is the bright object at right. The Milky Way runs horizontally across the image from east to west. Technical: This is a panorama of 4 segments, at 90º spacing and with the 10mm 7Artisans full-frame fish-eye lens at f/2.8 on the Nikon Z8 at ISO 1600 for 30 seconds each. Stitched with PTGui with spherical projection. The original is 9565 pixels square.
