How bright will Sungrazer C/2026 A1 MAPS be? Never before has a member of the Kreutz comet group been discovered so early before perihelion. Since the begin of the year, the comet has increased in brightness by 4 to 5 magnitudes and has developed a very faint gas coma currently measuring 6 arcminutes. A thin tail jet about 3 arcminutes long is also visible in images, which can be seen particularly well in a recent image taken by the JWST. Speculation that Comet MAPS could develop into a comet visible during the daylight around its perihelion on April 4 is entirely justified. The comet's further development can be followed very well in the coming weeks from the southern hemisphere, but also well north of the equator. On February 10, it was close to NGC 1360.
