“ Mystery Aurora Feature” January 20, 2026 Albany, Missouri This is at least a mystery to me. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the unique Aurora feature that I witnessed and photographed on the morning of January 20. I’m trying to convince myself that the blue aurora was Sunlit Aurora and not the usual aurora processes emitting an unusual blue light associated with Nitrogen interaction. If you look at these two comparison images I have drawn an arc along the feature that I am talking about. It’s almost as if the area below the arc is the shadow of the Earth while the blue sunlit aurora lies above the arc. This feature did not last for that long as can be seen in my recent video compilation of this event. I may be totally wrong about this as I usually am, but it was a unique feature to me nevertheless. I hope to find some clarification on what I saw in the near future. Nikon D750 and Sony A7iii with 15 mm and 24 mm lenses respectively
