Details:
This afternoon I noticed some unusually vivid pollen coronas around the sun, surprising considering the very clear air and good visibility. The culprit is the pervasive mountain cedar (Ashe Juniper) trees, responsible for the infamous "cedar fever" every January in Central Texas. The colors in these photos are not enhanced, it really did appear like this if you could block the sun with a structure or your hand. Noticeably brighter/more colorful around noon, getting fainter as the sun lost altitude. I've seen cedar pollen coronas around the moon in past years, but somehow never noticed them with the sun until lately- really a beautiful sight!
