Details:
I was able to capture the supernova SN2025ahxd in the galaxy UGC 525 last night between clouds. Using Tycho Tracker, the estimated visual magnitude was 15.21. It has been classified as a Type Ia supernova. That means it’s the thermonuclear explosion of a white dwarf star in a binary system once it accreted enough material to reach the Chandrasekhar limit (~1.4 × the Sun’s mass). UGC 525 Information: Right ascension: 00h51.606m (J2000) Declination: +29°43.280' (J2000) Constellation: Pisces Magnitude: 15.50 (B) Angular dimensions: 1.7 arcmin x 1.0 arcmin Tech Specs: Meade 12” LX-90 SCT Telescope, Antares Focal Reducer, ZWO ASI2600MC camera running at -10F, 55 x 60 seconds, Celestron CGX-L pier mounted, ZWO EAF and ASIAir Pro, processed in DSS/PixInsight/Tycho. Image Date: January 12, 2026. Location: The Dark Side Observatory (W59), Weatherly, PA, USA (Bortle Class 4).
