Details:
With the chances of an auroral display being visible from my location ~28° south on the 12th of November, I drove an hour and a half south of Brisbane for dark skies. Unfortunately the clouds started to roll in from the west. I set up my iPhone 16 Pro and pointed south. Occasionally I glimpsed Canopus through the gaps, but I couldn’t see any colour in the sky. The phone however showed so much red colour I doubted I was pointing south and I was picking the sunset instead, but Sky Safari told me that my photo was over 30 minutes after astronomical twilight… oh my dog! If only the clouds faded away! Canopus on the left, the LMC above and slightly left of centre. EXIF data: iPhone 16 Pro, ISO 6400, 24mm, f1.78, 30 second exposure.
