Tonight about midnight, I was remotely imaging Khavtassi 149 streaming off of the Gecko Nebula. Sitting 250 miles south of my observatory at Chiefland Astro Village, I checked my webcam and noticed the north looked RED! Could this be aurora I wondered? So I checked Starfront Texas Observatory and the entire north on their webcam was orange-red! So I asked friends up north at the Village to check the sky and Pat Freeman sends this incredible image of the Willis Observatory bathed in brilliant red aurora! How satisfying!! Then I walked outside my home in Jupiter Florida (latitude 26.9N) and there was aurora hugging the northern sky! Still cannot believe my 15-year old webcam was sensitive enough to show the red aurora and that I just happened to notice it! This hobby is the gift that keeps on giving!! :)
