Finally after a very long period of cloudy weather it cleared tonight. Comet Lemmon was a fairly easy naked eye sight located to the W of Bootes. It looks like a large fuzzy star and I could even see a short section of tail with the naked eye. Got to be getting closer to mag +4.
In my 10" telescope I could see the tail for 2 degrees, a dust tail and ion tail showing slight separation in position angle. The ion tail had numerous streamers.
The coma was moderately condensed at DC:6/ with bright condensation, I observed several dust jets including one in the anti-solar direction.
In the telescope I could also see a deformed ion tail with gap and curved structure detached from the main coma-sun line, I assumed this was a disconnection event in progress.
Nice comet, gorgeous with any optical aid from a dark location. Here's a 50mm DSLR image of me sitting on my van roof with comet in the sky. I hope it brightens a little more for us all.
