Details:
A mystical-looking aurora floats in the air above the Wrangell Mountains near McCarthy, Alaska as a waning moon reflects in the riffles of Kennicott River on September 15, 2025 around 3 am. Rub the magic solar lamp and the aurora genie was out of the bottle! UNPLUGGED ~ Being off-the-grid in this area, I had no cell phone data with my carrier to suggest what the forecast was in terms of both earth & space weather (it all took me back to the ol’ analog film days). So, when the clearest part of the night coincided was one heck of a substorm break-up, I was jazzed that my wish was granted!! As a ‘local tourist’ from Anchorage, I’ve enjoyed the rhythm of nature in McCarthy, Kennicott/Kennecott and the Wrangells for going on three decades, and I love its timeless beauty.
