Details:
After a failed attempt yesterday using a wide-angle with shorter exposures, I tried again today with a telephoto and somewhat longer exposures and got success, if one calls recording a faint but distinct blob in the proper location relative to Spica in every shot until it set behind mountains, success. No clue how bright the comet is--Virgo doesn't teem with comparison stars when the sky's still so bright--but it's assuredly there. Let's hope October realizes better viewing circumstances.
