Details:
Between the 11th and 14th August, Venus and Jupiter were so close together that they looked almost like a double star when viewed from Mutare. The accompanying composite image shows the two planets fairly close to the horizon in darkness to the ENE of some security light illuminated plants in my garden on Murambi Heights between 5.17 and 5.21 am from Monday 11th (top left) to Thursday 14th (bottom right) August. It shows how Venus approached Jupiter from above and skirted around it to the right in a clockwise direction with the closest approach occurring in the natural light image taken on the 12th. Early morning cloud almost prevented the latter from being photographed but a fortuitous gap which lasted for just a few minutes provided a fleeting glance of the two planets with some stars in the Orion Constellation above. Camera: Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 in manual exposure mode.
