Details:
My friend and I planned to drive out somewhere with a good view of the eastern horizon to observe the planetary conjunction, we set our alarms for 02:15 and both tried to get some kip but sleep was impossible, as it was so humid here last night. So we both just stayed up, it was overcast as we set out but the forecast was indicating the clouds would clear around 3am giving us ample time to view the conjunction.
by the time we had arrived at our chosen location the clouds had already started to break up, annoyingly at first plenty of big clear spells overhead and to the west, but it persisted where the planets were. Finally we started to get our first views, fleeting glimpses as the clouded drifted across them, making them appear and disappear as if they were winking at us but soon enough we got some nice uninterrupted views.
I also got a photo with my DSLR attached to the eyepiece of my friends 100mm refractor.
