Tonight I went up on my rooftop at around 01h (local summer time, 23:00 UT on the 9th). There were some magnificent NLCs so I started taking pictures for 1 hour and 50 minutes, stopping only at sunrise, and made a time-lapse.

These are the highest clouds at an altitude between 76 and 85 km in the mesosphere and they are seen around midnight when lit by the Sun moving under the northern horizon.
In this video there are 2 layers moving in opposite directions but also interfering and creating interesting patterns. I have observed NLCs for the last 20 years but I think that this is new to me.
It is most noticeable on the right side near the end of the video on YouTube where beautiful wave-like structures appear.
Another interesting observation is that as the Sun approaches the horizon, clouds get illuminated and become visible higher up in the sky.
