582 Olympia is a main belt asteroid. It was discovered on January 23, 1906 by August Kopff of the Landessternwarte Heidelberg-Königstuhl in Heidelberg. It is named after the Greek city of Olympia.
August Kopff was the son of a master plumber in Heidelberg. From 1900 to 1905 he studied mathematics, physics, and astronomy at the University of Heidelberg.

Olympia orbits the sun every 1,540 days (4.22 years), coming as close as 2.04 AU and reaching as far as 3.19 AU from the sun. Olympia is about 44.3 kilometers in diameter, making it larger than 99% of asteroids, comparable in size to the U.S. state of Rhode Island.

The rotation of Olympia has been observed. It completes a rotation on its axis every 36.31 hours.
