It was discovered on 19 March 1936, by Soviet astronomer Grigory Nikolayevich Neujmin at the Simeiz Observatory on the Crimean peninsula. On the same night, it was independently discovered by Serbian astronomer Petar Ðurkovic at Uccle Observatory in Belgium ( "No access for the public" )
