Details:
Here are two panoramas of the great NLC outburst on June 29, one from earlier in the night with the Clouds at their maximum extent, and one later (but still before midnight). These are from southern Alberta, Canada. The latter panorama shows the cloud tops retreating down as the Sun altitude decreases, but with the tops showing a "red edge" from that most southerly part of the NLCs now being lit by red sunlight from a setting Sun (as seen from their altitude). I waited up until 3:30 am expecting the NLCs to return strongly rising up into the pre-dawn sky. But I saw only a faint wispy band in the northeast. Odd that the conditions (lighting or atmospheric conditions) would have changed so much over just a couple of hours on this short night, to make a morning show so weak after such a strong evening/pre-midnight show.
