Details:
As the gibbous moon slowly faded below the horizon locally at 1:41 am, the sky suddenly exploded with colourful auroras in a symphony of light. Long tricolour pillars of pink, mauve, blue and green appeared, like a trombone player pointed to the sky, with his slider moving ever higher.
Meanwhile, the rest of the supporting orchestra played out in a long band of red and green bright colourful curtains radiating across the Northern sky. I imagined piccolos, violins and violas filling in the drama as light pillars marched from east to west, reaching a crescendo of surging, oscillating waves of radiation.
At one point, my camera caught the tail end of a slow-burning, bright meteor streaking east, below Ursa Major - the Big Dipper.
It was a dramatic, dynamic and colourful scene - one of the most amazing auroras I have ever photographed in Southern Quebec!
Nikon D850, Nikkor 24-70 2.8 lens, 20mm 1.8 prime and 14mm 2.8 prime
Exposures averaged 4 to 8 seconds at ISO 2500 and 3200
