Details:
An image of the Eagle Nebula's "Pillards of Creation". These remarkable finger-like structures are the result of erosion of gas and dust by intense ultraviolet radiation from nearby hot, massive stars in the star cluster NGC 6611. The process of this gradual erosion is called photoevaporation.
