On January 14, 2025, I was able to photograph Comet ATLAS (C/2024 G3) just after sunset in best atmospheric conditions. (https://spaceweathergallery2.com/indiv_upload.php?upload_id=219384). There was a well-developed inversion layer over the foothills of the Alps, which produced an overwhelming sunset and led to a magnificent mirage of the Alps. The big surprise emerged when I viewed the images in the evening: The head of Comet ATLAS was significantly increased in brightness and elongated by the mirage before it sank! The mirage occurred at the same altitude at which the first large segment split off from the sun! The comet insert is a 100% detail of a single frame. The included solar image was taken at 15:34 UT. Details of the image with comet: Canon EOS R6, 200 mm, f/7.1, 1/6“, ISO 400, 16:18 UT; single frame
