Details:
I gave a pass on grabbing midday shots of that comet today and went for a last minute sunset attempt. But today of course the western horizon was daubed with clouds. I do like what it all added to the view.
Still, I can't emphasize enough how difficult it is to spot and then photograph the tiniest speck of a comet in bright twilight with gobs of altocumulus and virga all over the place.
At one point I finally picked it up visually just above a morphing ridge of clouds in binoculars, but then took too long memorizing which cloud splotch it was and reframing the camera to snag it. Finally got it spotted again, reframed the camera and quick blasted a sequence of 64 images until the buffer logjammed. Even in a short 3 seconds, it was still moving frame by frame as it set, leading to tedious comet vs. horizon stack separation.
Anyway, there it is trying to sneak through that clearing on it's way to the treeline. Second & third pics show the full frame view & how small it is in a 5.5° wide view and then cropped tighter to see a bit better.
