An incredible memory! From the Stratosphere at 36,000 feet, I could see Comet C/2024 G3 ATLAS with binoculars in the same field as the setting sun, below, through the thicker Troposphere. (Yes, the world is round). Very dangerous observation, but conditions were just perfect. Although difficult to find, once found the pin point nucleus was very bright and had an obvious short stubby tail. The sun was red and below level, but still above the distant horizon and visible in the same field! I did a drawing because I can’t download my photos currently, but thought that I should share this amazing story! Going west, we were chasing the sun and our comet observation lasted almost 5 full hours! Eventually the comet became visible to the naked eye without binoculars, but at no time was it “obvious” to see. Has anyone ever looked at a Comet and the Sun at the same time before? Curious.
