Comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) During Daytime On the morning of January 11, 2025, I did not expect to have the chance to capture the comet again with my equipment. However, favorable weather conditions and the comet’s extraordinary brightness inspired me to attempt my first daytime comet photography. I had already tried photographing the comet on the day of its perihelion without success. The following day, January 14, taking advantage of its continued brightening, I made another attempt in the early afternoon after a brief passage of clouds. Carefully shielding the Sun’s disk, I captured over 100 frames of the region where I suspected the comet would appear. Upon reviewing the images, I identified the comet in 27 of the frames. By averaging the selected frames and incorporating the passing clouds into the composition, I was able to render a natural-looking sky while still ensuring that the comet is clearly visible in the final image. Despite numerous challenges, perseverance paid off, and I successfully captured the first daytime comet image of my life. ~~~ Technical details: Date: 14 Jan, 2025 12:18-12:28 UT Location: Tápióbicske, Pest, Hungary Camera: Nikon D3300 Lens: AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G VR Mount: WDF-4 Focal ratio, length: f/8, 300 mm (comet), f/5,6, 300 mm (sky) 27 x 1/1000 sec (comet) + 1/4000 sec (sky) ISO: 100 Processing: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom
