Details:
Observing the moon in its first quarter phase can be a fascinating experience. The most striking feature is that only half of the moon's face appears illuminated. This is because the sun is illuminating one side of the moon while the other side remains in shadow.
The boundary between the illuminated and shadowed parts of the moon, known as the terminator, will be a distinct line.
The first quarter moon is a great time to observe lunar features like craters, mountains, and maria (dark, flat areas).
