Details:
I tracked Lucy using custom software I wrote to read an ephemeris file from JPL Horizons and command my 11" Celestron NexStar GPS to track along those coordinates. An hour before Lucy appeared, I mapped out the pointing error of the telescope using stars along the trajectory, but this was my first time trying this technique with a spacecraft flying by Earth so I wasn't sure it would work. Sure enough, when Lucy finally exited Earth's shadow it was clearly visible in the field of view!
