Details:
Here it is, the beautiful comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) photographed from Vieste (FG)!
Tonight, it was simply stunning to the naked eye, less bright than yesterday, but higher in the sky and with a spectacular contrast thanks to a darker sky. To find it, look towards the west from places with little light pollution and no obstacles. Draw an imaginary diagonal from Venus to Arcturus, and at the midpoint of this line, raise your gaze slightly upwards.
But the most incredible thing? I also captured the anti-tail! That streak pointing downwards that seems to aim directly at the Sun. It is formed by larger particles left along the comet's path, illuminated by our star. The anti-tail is only visible at specific moments, when the Earth crosses the comet's orbital plane, and the dust appears projected forward, creating this wonder that seems to defy the laws of physics!
Canon EOS 70D, a stack of 20 shots of 20", ISO 800, f/4.0, 50mm focal length, on a StarAdventurer.
