Details:
A faint structureless aurora was visible from the southwest corner of Utah, fading away during my short time outside. I called my wife outside so she could get a few photos on her smartphone, and she immediately began picking out the red of the aurora while I couldn't see a thing. She did this during the substorm back in May too when we were visiting Glacier National Park, pointing out the various red, green, and purple colors for me to aim my camera in those directions to catch the colors, all while seeing nothing myself.

Photos #1, #3, and #4 have had their sky saturation increased by ~50% to make the aurora stand out; landscape areas are unedited. Photo #2 is Photo #1 without any processing anywhere so you can see the aurora's true brightness. Note that the red color is in the clear sky with stars, not in areas of clouds reflecting city lights, plus the city is behind me. The red glow in the lower left hand corner of photo #1 comes from my red flashlight, not from city lights (which are now mostly white anyway from LED street lights). Polaris is at the top center in photo #4.
