Details:
Despite a marginal kp number and an aurora oval that was too far north, my wife and I decided to venture out with our iPhone just in case. At first its camera did pick up some faint auroral activity, but an hour later (1 am), the sky just exploded with these bright, shimmering, spikey, watermelon-colored auroras. They were faint to the naked eye, but were spectacular on camera!
