Details:
I had imaged the faint, subvisual red arc since astronomical twilight ended, but clouds interrupted. NOAA data linked in Spaceweather.com suggested that auroral activity was persisting. I was insanely fortunate to peek outside just as the clouds passed and the storm was subsiding. Aurora and a possible SAR arc briefly became visible.
For perspective: Image with the bright red auroras shows Polaris near the top right above the tree with the rest of the Little Dipper curving left and down. Wider angle image take a few minutes later as the outburst was waning shows the red auroras around the big tree and an outer red arc (behind the airplane lights) that I believe is a Stable Auroral Red arc. Polaris is just above the top of the tree on the right.
Both became barely visible to the naked eye for a few minutes.
