Details:
I have been hunting for the Northern Lights in northern Norway for 11 years. My adventure began with a visit to Tromsø, where I heard a story about the search for the extremely rare blue aurora borealis in the local planetarium. Since then, I have been observing the aurora for 2 months every year, spending the winter above the Arctic Circle. I have seen almost every type of aurora, and I keep coming back for more! I have only seen a truly blue aurora once before, in 2018. Last night I managed to do it for the second time! The blue aurora appeared during a magnetic storm after midnight. At first I thought it was a reflection on the camera's optics. However, changing the frame allowed me to confirm that there were indeed pillars of blue light floating above the northeastern horizon! The "blue" aurora often appears in photos with the white balance set incorrectly. This time there was no doubt that I had come across this ultra-rare type of aurora! Sony A7s III + 7Artisan 10mm f2.8
